Retama Village
, Rio Grande Valley, Texas is a luxury RV-oriented Village in the "Valley" of south Texas. Within the gated age-restricted community (55+) is a mixture of deeded RV lots, "Port Houses" with attached RV ports, and single family housing.  Both trailers and motor homes are welcome.

Individual lot owners offer large RV super sites with a 12'x20' or larger Coach House for lease. This web site provides availability and pricing of rental sites, but rentals are handled directly by the individual lot owners. You may be surprised to find that the rental of a luxury RV site is surprisingly affordable when compared to commercial RV parks that are not nearly as nice.


Retama Village is an RV community that is part of the 2,600 acre Master Planned  Community of Bentsen Palm Development. Retama Village is a private RV community adjacent to Bentsen Palm Village RV Resort - the finest RV resort in the Rio Grande Valley. Bentsen Palm is rated 10/10/10 and 5 Stars in the latest RV campground publications. It is also independently rated as one of the top mid-sized resorts in the US, and the number 1 rated resort in Texas.   Retama Village was built from inception as an ownership RV community - and thus the facilities are quite a bit nicer than Bentsen Palm Village. As renters at Retama Village you have all of the Bentsen Palm facilities available to you, as well as the Retama facilities.

Retama Village covenants are restrictive; unlike other RV Resorts in the Valley there are no park models, mobile homes, permanent RVs, or RVs with attached rooms or skirting.

The Village is located adjacent to thousands of acres of federal and state wildlife areas, and is surrounded by undeveloped land.  Located within walking distance are the World Birding Center Headquarters, the top birding site in the U.S., the largest outdoor butterfly park in the world designed and maintained by the North American Butterfly Association, and thousands of acres of state and federally protected pristine wildlife habitat including lakes, parks, and the Rio Grande River. Bentsen Palm - the master planned community that Retama Village is a part of - has developed extensive hike and bike trails, community parks, lakes and natural areas for the private use of Bentsen Palm residents. This is not an RV Park in an urban/developed environment, however all major big-box stores and medical needs are within 10-12 miles.

Pool1x.jpg (387609 bytes)The Retama Club has three heated pools (lap pool - social pool - spa), Fitness Center, Craft Center, Outdoor Kitchen, Lounge, Library, Billiards Room, Game Rooms, Theater Room, Laundry and much more. The large outdoor Party Deck is surrounded by Trellis-covered walkways and soft lighting coming from the large palm trees and landscape areas. In addition, many facilities at the co-located Bentsen Palm Village RV Resort may be used. Bentsen Palm has a large and fully equipped woodworking shop, several large laundry areas, bikes, kayaks for use on the river, a large dog park and a dog agility course.Bird1x.jpg (374427 bytes) There is also an excellent private shooting facility, and an active gun club at Retama.

Retama Village is heavily landscaped with native planting materials that attract birds and butterflies to the community. A great effort was made to use natural plantings  - you will not find a better RV park for birding and butterfly viewing. All landscaping and lawn maintenance is provided by the homeowners association. Underground drip irrigation provides for a lush environment without wasteful watering of RVs, vehicles and buildings.

 

A note about security. Given all the media attention to "border violence" some people have expressed concern about the location of the RV parks in the Valley. Those that come to the Valley on a regular basis know that there is no issue with border violence in the area, and that crime statistics show that the entire Valley is actually far safer than most other areas of the country. A recent study by Farmers Insurance ranks the Valley area (McAllen-Edinburg-Mission) #13  in the "Most Secure Places To Live, 2011". Those concerned with security should choose the Valley over other locations. It is actually far safer than most other snowbird locations.

Value for your dollar

We are all concerned with getting the best "deal". If you look at the amenities, lot sizing, surrounding location and competitive pricing we believe you will see the value in Retama Village. You get more for your dollar at Retama than at any competing resort in the Valley. And compared to Florida or the Southwest we believe you get FAR more value. Our lots all have at least a 12x20' building for your use. In some cases these are completely finished as a luxury mini-casita with small kitchen, sitting area and bath. In other cases they provide you great storage or workspace for your visit.

Retama Village is not just another "RV Park" - it is a luxury ownership park with amenities that attract the discriminating RVer. And at a price BELOW competing RV parks without the same level of amenities!

 

Some of the amenities you will enjoy at Retama Village include:

  • 40 x 80 or 45' x 95' RV super sites. 50-amp electric service with good voltage.
  • A 12x20 or 12' x 24' Coach House is on each lot. The standard Coach House is unfinished, but many of the rentals include a fully finished Coach House with full bath and sitting area. Some have kitchenettes as well. Most of the Coach Houses have double French doors for indoor/outdoor living. For some examples of what can be done with the Coach Houses, take a look at It's Only A Shed. There you will see everything from "Texas Chic", to moving walls, and the "famous" Margaritaville "shed".
  • Large concrete patios and RV parking area. The minimum size concrete patio/parking area is approximately 30x70 and is surrounded by landscaping. All landscape maintenance and lawn care is provided.
  • New $1 M+ Clubhouse. Large pool (with lap lanes) and two side pools.
  • Gated. Gates are open during Sales Office hours, but otherwise closed. You have an access code.
  • The entire  community is fully, and exceptionally, landscaped.   Less wind in general than the Eastern part of the Valley. Landscaping is designed to attract butterflies and birds.
  • Wide paved streets with easy access for the largest of RV's.
  • High-speed cable Internet is available at all sites for an additional charge. The renter is directly responsible for this.
  • Cable TV is available at each site for an additional charge. There is a clear view of the southern sky for satellite.
  • Good Verizon/Sprint cell phone reception without external antennas, including  Internet access. Data  coverage is a mixture of 3G and 4G, depending on your carrier. There is Verizon 4G.
  • No restrictions on washing RVs.
  • Directly adjacent to Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park , World Birding Center, and the North American Butterfly Association Outdoor Butterfly Park. Miles of biking and walking trails in a natural setting. This is not a developed area like other portions of the Rio Grande Valley.
  • Bird and Butterfly watching is among the best in the Nation. People come from all over the country to this location for birding and for the butterflies.
  • Convenient to all shopping. Wal-Mart and other big box stores are within 10 miles of easy driving.
  • Water, sewer and trash pickup are provided. You pay your own electric by meter.
  • RVs older than 10 years must be approved by individual owners. No pop-ups or truck campers are permitted. Minimum length of RV  is 25'.
  • Dogs are very welcome. There is a large dog park and agility course available for your use next door at Bentsen Palm RV Village. There are also miles of trails surrounding the development. You may have two dogs and two cats on your lot. Normal rules apply.
  • Shooting range for pistol, trap and skeet. Active shooting Club.
  • The excellent wood shop at Bentsen Palm Village next door is available for use.
  • 55+ Adult community. Children under 19 years of age may visit for a maximum of thirty days, but must be under direct adult supervision at all times. At least one person renting the lot must be 55+.
